Only accessible by private boat or ferry, Hontoon Island State Park is a quiet oasis for nature lovers. Cabins, tent camping and boat slips for boat camping are available. Fishing, paddling, and kayaking are popular activities on the island. A large playground and play area will keep children entertained for hours. Walk, hike or bike the many trails including a three mile round trip self-guided trail, an eight mile trail to the largest historic oak tree on the island, or the nine and a half mile trail around the entire island. Bird watching and wildlife are abundant on Hontoon Island and you can see alligators, snakes, otters, manatees, and more. Walk through the visitors center on the island to learn about the historic island and the many Native American inhabitants of the island as well as the Spanish influence and later American settler William Hontoon.
