There are numerous reasons to love Putnam County, a place that offers so much to so many people. Sure, you can drive along the most-traveled roads and see some interesting sites and even more interesting people. However, if you explore the different municipalities, you will find a rural paradise that provides glimpses of the Old Florida of which seasoned Floridians speak fondly. You can get a scaled-down, less-populated version of a big city in Palatka, with its government buildings, growing business scene and, strangely enough, rush-hour traffic. If quaint, small-town charm is what you crave, head to Crescent City for some of the best Mexican food you’ve ever had or a day out on the water. Go to Interlachen, where it seems everyone knows everyone, which makes the festivals and parades in the area even more fun. You can immerse yourself in the art scene in Melrose or become one with nature on hikes, kayak excursions or horseback riding trails in Welaka and Pomona Park. You don’t have to look hard to find something that appeals to you.
Putnam County’s greatest assets, however, are the people who call it home. Whether they were born here or found their way here later in life, Putnam residents love their home county and are fiercely protective of it. They participate in county-wide cleanups, celebrate merrily at festivals and tell anyone who will listen about the travels of 18th-century explorer William Bartram. Welcome to Putnam County. We’re so happy you’ve come to see us. Have a look around and get to know it well. We know you’ll find something you love and will want to share with others.
